Drug-loaded mesoporous silica/calcium phosphate composites for bone regeneration

Adrian Szewczyk at Department of Physical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Gdańsk has kindly allowed us to introduce this paper that introduces a study of Drug-loaded mesoporous silica/calcium phosphate composites for bone regeneration.

The pellets were obtained in the laboratory scale using the wet-granulation, extrusion and spheronization method. The pellets proved satisfactory mechanical properties which allowed for further investigations (the drug release studies and the mineralization potential assay) without a risk of pellets cracking. The extrusion and spheronization was done using the Caleva Multi Lab and the binder addition required was determined by the Caleva Mixer Torque Rheometer.
